The past week was marked with the Turkmen-Korean Business Forum in the Turkmen capital, co-organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Korea International Trade Association. The meeting with the Republic of Korea delegation was attended by representatives of our country’s ministries, departments, Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union. Opening the forum, the participants noted that over the past few years the Turkmen-Korean interstate dialogue had reached a qualitatively new level of development. The agreements reached and important documents signed during mutual state visits by the heads of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea have given strong impetus to further deepening of the bilateral relations, realization of the solid potential of partnership. The fact that the trade turnover has increased from US $200 million to $1. 9 billion over the past few years, serves as a striking example. The intensification of Korean business communities’ activity in our country also speaks well for the productive cooperation between our countries. Over a period of years the largest companies of the Republic of Korea have been working successfully in such sectors of the national economy as the oil and gas, chemical and transport complexes. In the course of the business forum, the guests were thoroughly acquainted with the achievements of independent and neutral Turkmenistan, which had been made thanks to the creative policy, pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and aimed to bring up our country on the level with the world’s highly developed countries and ensure prosperous and happy life of the Turkmen people. The reports of the Turkmen side representatives featured the indices testifying to the achievements of the country’s socio-economic development, the availability of enormous resource and export potential of the national economy’s key sectors. In their turn, members of the Korean delegation also acquainted their Turkmen partners with the capabilities and proposals of leading companies – world’s leaders in high technologies. In this connection, an emphasis was placed on the significance of cooperation in building up technology-intensive production facilities based on processing of local raw materials, in particular, in the energy sector, agriculture, the textile industry and others. At the same time, representatives of the friendly country’s business circles evinced keen interest in promoting cooperation in such priority areas as ecology, construction, education, transport, communications, and practical use of alternative sources of energy. The guests confirmed their willingness to provide their latest scientific and industrial developments for realization of joint national and regional projects, as well as to contribute to training of highly-qualified specialists for the Turkmen economy’s leading sectors. Noting the importance of expanding cooperation in the trade-economic sphere, the forum participants spoke for increasing the volume and widening the scope of bilateral trade turnover. In this context, the sides stressed the need to encourage the participation of small and medium enterprises in mutual trade. Regular international exhibitions, fairs, conferences, etc. are aimed to contribute to this as well. In the frames of bilateral meetings between representatives of ministries, departments, and the Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union of Turkmenistan and members of the Republic of Korea delegation, detailed consideration was given to specific steps and plans for further interaction.
