The ceremony of signing the Programmatic Cooperation Framework on sustainable development between Turkmenistan and the UN

The ceremony of signing the Programmatic Cooperation Framework on sustainable development between Turkmenistan and the UN for 2021-2025 took place at the Yyldyz Hotel. This document is designed to enhance cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN in various areas, including maintenance of economic stability and growth, protection of the social rights of the population, improvement of the health care system and maintenance of the ecological balance. The heads and specialists of the Mejlis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Health Care and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the population, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, as well as the representatives of law enforcement agencies, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy, as well as the embassies and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, the public and the media, including foreign one attended the ceremony. The importance of the Programmatic Cooperation Framework in the context of building up a multifaceted dialogue with the UN that meets the interests of well-being and sustainable development in the regional and global level was emphasized during the meeting. It was also noted that the adoption of the Programmatic Cooperation Framework testified to the efficient character of partnership with this largest international organization and its leading agencies, reflected the mutual commitment to develop prosperous, inclusive and sustainable Turkmenistan. Addressing mass media, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Elena Panova noted that the United Nations highly recognized the active position of Turkmenistan on the world arena, which is based on the principles of positive neutrality. The strategic priorities of the Programmatic Cooperation Framework correspond to the wider context of Central Asia, support Turkmenistan’s cooperation with neighboring countries to resolve common issues, and partnership with regional and subregional institutions. It was emphasized that the strategic partnership of the UN system with financial institutions and development banks would promote creating conditions for stimulating entrepreneurship and attracting foreign direct investments. The UN in Turkmenistan will continue to cooperate with national partners in the field of human rights, namely with the Interdepartmental Commission of Turkmenistan to implement international human rights obligations. “Particular attention will be paid to developing partnerships with civil society and the private sector, the innovative potential of which will contribute to achieving the goals of the Cooperation Program,” said UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Elena Panova.
