A regular meeting of the Government Commission on the study of issues on Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, practical steps taken by Turkmenistan to get the status of WTO observer status were discussed. The meeting participants noted that the entry into the World Trade Organization would offer a powerful impetus to the development of those areas, where Turkmenistan stays competitive in the global marketplace. In particular, these are hydrocarbon resources, the construction of modern gas and oil refineries. After accession to the WTO, Turkmenistan will enjoy the most favored nation treatment by all international organizations, and will be provided with economic benefits. Thus, the ongoing work on accession to WTO is aimed at consolidating the position of Turkmenistan in the world for the future, participating in global processes as well as using competitive advantages, which will enhance the status of the country on the international arena and facilitate the inflow of loans and investments.
