The Mejlis hosted regular session of the Working Group for development and compilation of proposals related to amendments and addendums of the Constitution of Turkmenistan. Working group, which includes deputies of National Parliament, representatives of ministries and profile departments, law enforcement agencies, political parties, public organizations, scientists and experts of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy, has continued analysis of proposals on the Draft Constitutional Law on Amendments and Addendums of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, which has been brought up for nation-wide discussion. Coming transfer of legislative body of the country to two-chamber system was among the main subjects of the session. In this regards, issues related to relative amendments and addendums of existing laws of Turkmenistan have been discussed in details. It was highlighted that initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on improvement of the Main Law of the country, modernization of National Parliament and giving new legal status to the People’s Council have been accepted by Turkmenistan citizens with enthusiasm. Amendments and addendums, which are planned to be introduced to the Constitution of the country, will be another important step toward the strengthening of the institutes of civic society, improvement of national legislation and bringing it in compliance with time requirements. Reports of representatives of scientific and educational facilities, who highlighted national experience of the state development and administration as well as specific examples of constitutional reforms from the world practice, have been listened during the session. The participants were unanimous in the opinion that adoption of the Law would be a historical event for Turkmen people. The participants of the session outlined the plan of events related to work of the group including for wide explanation activity among the population.
