Turkmenistan enhances contribution to development of regional transport corridors

The representatives of the “Türkmendemirýollary” Agency, the “Demirýollary” Open Joint-Stock Company, and the Railway Administration of the Ministry of Transport of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan held a meeting in a videoconference format. The meeting agenda focused on the implementation of projects for the construction of the Akina-Andhoy and Turgundi-Herat railway lines. According to those speaking during the meeting, the main condition for political stability in Afghanistan, its socio-economic revival, successful integration into the system of regional and world economic relations is the implementation of joint infrastructure projects in strategic areas, including transport. Exchanging the views, the videoconference participants noted that the project developed on the instruction of the President of Turkmenistan aimed at expanding the transport infrastructure and providing integrated logistics services to partners from the fraternal country. Speaking about the demand for steel roads in Akina-Andhoy and Turgundi-Herat, the parties expressed belief that as new logistics routes are connected to them, their role as international transport corridors would increase. Discussing the current state of affairs, the meeting participants noted the need to intensify activities in this direction. The exchange of views on optimization of transit freight traffic flow and rail transport passing through the IRA, further development of the transport corridor between the states - parties to the Lyapis Lazuli Agreement took place during the meeting,. Discussing this topic, the meeting participants emphasized the importance of the transcontinental corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey, the effective use of which will help to expand productive relations on a vast geo-economic space.
