The Foreign Ministry hosts Turkmen – German working meeting

The Foreign Ministry hosted Turkmen – German working meeting where perspectives of intensification of interstate cooperation have been discussed. Representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Protection, State Water Management Committee took part in the meeting from Turkmen side while Germany was represented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to our country Neithart Höfer-Wissing. Having stated with delight traditionally friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Germany, the participants of the meeting paid special attention to bilateral partnership, in particular in environment protection sphere and agriculture. Number of long-term projects including the project “European Union – Central Asia: Cooperation in Environment Protection and Climate Change” has been discussed. EU and its countries work closely with Central Asian states, in particular with Turkmenistan, for preservation of natural ecosystems on local, national and global levels. The climate change, protection of biodiversity, prevention of soil degradation and management of water resources are the main issues for the region and require the development of coordinated approach to their solution. It was mentioned that European Union expresses sincere interest in comprehensive expansion of the dialog with Turkmenistan, which demonstrates willingness to establish close regional and interregional cooperation. Having studied in details practical work and steadfast measures taken in our country for environment protection, German side highly appreciated progressive initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Growing role of Turkmenistan in international efforts for rational treatment of environment, solution of global ecological problems for the interests of sustainable development has been noted. Special focus has been made on the issues related to promotion of Turkmenistan’s proposals under initiative of “Green Central Asia”. Having noted the necessity of further development of joint projects, the participants of Turkmen – German meeting expressed confidence in successful continuation of constructive partnership.
