The Head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan takes part in the Assembly of the CIS Foreign Ministers

Vice-premier, Foreing Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the session of the Assembly of the Foreign Ministers of the country members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was held in video conference format. Foreign Ministers of the country members of the Commonwealth as well as Chairman of the executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev took part in the session. The agenda of the session included subjects of development of cooperation in key directions of activity of the Commonwealth of Independent States, aspects of activation of partnership between foreign departments. Being an associated member of the CIS, which at first is provided by its neutral status, Turkmenistan demonstrates commitment to traditionally friendly dialog under the Commonwealth. This position completely meets priorities of foreign strategy, which is implemented under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and targeted to expansion of multidimensional regional and international cooperation and adding new motivation to this cooperation. In modern conditions, the Commonwealth of Independent States is an actual platform for equal efficient partnership meeting interests of common wealth. Initiatives proposed by Turkmen leader, including initiatives for development of the Declaration on strategic economic cooperation of the Commonwealth members, are to support to steadfast intensification of beneficial relations. As is known, this fundamental document was adopted by the outcomes of the CIS Summit in Ashgabat last October. Combining successful solution of objectives of internal development and active participation in international affairs, our country considers cooperation of the CIS countries as an important direction of its foreign policy. Standing for strengthening of fruitful cooperation meeting time requirements, Turkmenistan builds interstate and multilateral relations on the principles of maximum accounting of interests, long-term and reliable partnership, good will, dialog of cultures and civilizations, exchange of best practice and positive ideas. Interested exchange of views on current aspects of regional and international problems, cooperation on the CIS space in the context of modern realities took place and legal and contractual framework of cooperation has been reviewed in details during online session of the Foreign Minister Assembly. The agenda of the meeting also included draft documents aimed at further activation of constructive partnership in different spheres. In particular, implementation of the Plan of multi-level consultations between Foreign Ministries under the CIS in 2019 has been reviewed as well as similar Plan for 2020 has been approved. It includes subjects related to coordination of positions of the states of the Commonwealth under the membership in the UN, cooperation with other international organizations, informational sphere, counteracting of new challenges and threats. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov notes that Turkmenistan initiates the establishment of effective long-term mechanisms, which would allow giving more targeted, efficient and systematic character to joint work, for strengthening of contacts between foreign ministries of the Commonwealth countries. It will support to closer and coordinated activities of the CIS countries in international arena where consolidation of efforts is the main priority for provision of universal peace, security and sustainable development. Cooperation between the CIS countries is to be a significant factor of continental stability and make positive effect on current processes, the Head of Turkmenistan highlights. The agenda of the current session of the CIS Foreign Minister Assembly has also included drafts of some documents, which would be brought to review of the highest authorities of the Commonwealth. At the same time, the participants of the session confirmed importance of expansion of the partnership in economic, energy spheres, humanitarian field including in science and education, youth affairs as well as development and implementation of innovations and advanced technologies into the main branches of national economy. The Commonwealth states also plan to continue developing traditional cooperation in cultural sphere. In this context, subject of realization of Interstate Programme “Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth” has been brought for review by the CIS Foreign Ministry Assembly. Sport sphere is also current direction of the partnership in the CIS format. In this regard, Draft Strategy of development of cooperation of the country members of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the sphere of physical culture and sports in 2021 – 2030 has been reviewed at the session. It is targeted on intensification of the processes of cooperation, expansion of partnership between profile organizations in the Commonwealth. Adoption of the Strategy is to support consolidation of efforts and exchange of practice in improvement of national systems of physical training education of the population, preparation of sport reserve and high-class sportsmen, modernization of relative equipment and facility base. Joint activities of the Commonwealth states due to epidemiological situation in the world have been discussed during the session. At the same time, the necessity of consolidation of efforts and development of effective mechanisms of cooperation in combating of coronavirus pandemic and in prevention of its consequences has been highlighted. In this aspect, Turkmen side has noted appropriateness of reviewing of the subject of establishment of contacts between medical scientists, practicing physicians in scientific diplomacy. As is known, such systematic approach to joint work on professional level was initiated by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during high-level meeting of the Non-Alignment Movement on May 4. Signing of number of documents including the Resolutions on implementation of the Plan of multi-level consultations between Foreign ministries under the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2019 and on 2020 Plan, on Strategy of development of cooperation of the members of the Commonwealth of Independent States in physical training and sport in 2021 – 2030, on Implementation of Interstate Programme “Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth, in Kyrgyz Republic (Karakol) took place by the outcomes of the session. In the end of the session, the commitment of the CIS countries to constructive beneficial partnership meeting long-term interests of people and states of the Commonwealth and goals of common prosperity and progress have been confirmed.
