Mejlis representatives attend online meetings under the aegis of OSCE PA and Inter-Parliamentary Union

The heads and deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in an online meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) with delegations of parliaments of Central Asian states. Emphasizing the importance of strengthening and developing inter-parliamentary relations, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, George Tsereteli and Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Roberto Montella informed their colleagues from Central Asian countries about the upcoming events in the near future. According to the meeting participants, Turkmenistan’s conceptual approaches on a wide range of international issues, put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the sessions of the UN General Assembly and high OSCE forums, reflect our country's openness and readiness to deepening the established constructive dialogue with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly with a view to sustainable development. Parliamentarians considered the implementation of measures to counteract COVID-19 pandemic and the restoration of the global economy. Specialists of the OSCE's Secretariat provided their comments.

Deputies of the national Mejlis took part in the first online meeting in a series of webinars for parliamentarians on the response to overcome COVID-19 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The global online session involving international experts and parliamentarians from around the world is held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the UN Network for Sustainable Development Solutions, in conjunction with the new initiative “Parliamentarians for Global Goals”. Participants in the multilateral meeting discussed the best practices to combat the coronavirus pandemic, including the initiatives put forward by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to overcome its consequences and restore the global economy in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
