The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan considers the results of work of the Ministry in January-June, 2020

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting to review the results of work of the foreign policy agency of the country in January-June, 2020. The meeting was attended by the heads and employees of the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan. The main results achieved within the above period as part of the foreign policy of the country, consistently implemented on the initiative and under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, were presented during the meeting. In this context, the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the states of the region as well as international structures was emphasized. Moreover, special emphasis was placed on the recent election of our country as Vice-Chair of the upcoming 75th session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting participants also discussed the priority tasks of the Ministry for the second half of the year. One of the main topic on the agenda of the meeting was the key vectors of environmental diplomacy in Turkmenistan, in particular, the promotion of the new Caspian environmental programme initiated by the President of Turkmenistan during the first Caspian Economic Forum held in Avaza NTZ on August 12, 2019. In this aspect, the importance of preserving the Caspian ecosystem in the context of global climate change, the significant contribution of our country to the implementation of the goals of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, and the improvement of the environmental and socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin were underlined. In this direction, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov put forward a number of constructive initiatives that were widely supported by the international community. In this regard, the importance of enhancing cooperation within the framework of the Regional Environmental Programme for the sustainable development of Central Asia was emphasized. Moreover, the meeting participants considered the issues related to the accession of Turkmenistan to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the fair and equitable use of the benefits of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
