On August 29, an important agricultural campaign – cotton harvesting, started simultaneously in three velayats of Turkmenistan - Akhal, Lebap, and Mary velayats. Little later, on September 6, cotton growers of Dashoghuz velayat (the northern region of the country) will join the campaign. To start the large harvesting campaign with «white caravans» is an age-old tradition of Turkmen cotton growers which has found its continuation in the new historical epoch. Now, what is above all needed is to gather timely and without loss the entire harvest of raw cotton and deliver it to the country’s storehouses. In the current cotton harvesting campaign, Turkmenistan projects to produce 1,050,000 tons of raw cotton distributed as: 207,000 tons - in Akhal velayat; 230,000 tons - in Dashoghuz; 300,000 tons - in Lebap; and 313,000 tons - in Mary velayats. The 545,000-hectare total area was planted to the medium- and fine-stapled varieties of cotton, such as «149F», «133F», « Yoloten -7», «Dashoghuz -120», «Serdar», «S-4727», «Yoloten-39», «Yoloten-14», «Yoloten-32». On the whole, 500 cotton combines, 3,027 units of motor transport, 2,340 tractors, and 3,558 tractor trailers (intended for transporting raw cotton) will be employed in the cotton-harvesting campaign. To ensure uninterrupted functioning of the cotton-harvesting conveyor, the around-the-clock technical and repairing services were organized along with other conditions necessary for securing full-fledged production and recreation of machine operators, drivers and cotton pickers. Prior to starting the mechanized cotton harvesting, sufficient amounts of defoliants were purchased. As usually, not only specialized tractors, but special planes of civil aviation will also be enacted in the mechanized harvesting processes. 155 procurement stations and 39 ginneries of the country have been prepared for reception of the new cotton harvest. In the procurement stations’ laboratories and factories, specialists of the State Service «Turkmenstandartlary» in the presence of representatives of the cotton trade enterprise «Ak Altyn» and cotton growers will ensure strict examination of quality of the cotton delivered. To motivate the foremost and successful cotton growers, irrigators, combine operators and drivers in the cotton-harvesting campaign-2015, Political Council of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan and central bodies of other social organizations, State Association «Turkmenobahyzmat», State Commercial Bank «Daykhanbank», State Concern «Turkmenpagta», as well as editorial offices of newspapers «Galkynysh», «Nesil» and «Bereketli toprak» will announce the traditional competition.
