Turkmen and Afghan leaders discuss over the telephone the agenda of cooperation

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani had a telephone conversation. Warmly greeting each other, the Heads of friendly states have exchanged congratulations on occasion of Eid al-Adha, having expressed confidence that this beautiful holiday, which symbolizes triumph of high spiritual values like humanity, goodwill and generosity, would support the strengthening of solidarity and unity in entire Muslim community. It was highlighted that Turkmen and Afghan nations are united by ancient tradition of friendship, mutual respect, common spiritual and historical values, which serves as reliable foundation of interstate dialog. Having stated with delight that bilateral cooperation is developed on the principles of good neighbourliness, friendship and equality, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed gratitude to Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for special attention and personal contribution to strengthening of fraternal relations and expansion of beneficial partnership between two countries. During telephone conversation, number of current issues of regional and global agenda has been discussed. In particular, the subject of the coronavirus pandemic, which having covered huge geographic space, makes negative impact on life of many countries and nations. Having highlighted that Turkmenistan entirely supports the activity of the world community in combating of COVID-19, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence in the necessity of coordinated measures on international level for successful combating of this threat that humankind is facing at the moment. The Head of the State made special mention of the role of transit and transport Lapis Lazuli corridor, which was established under the Agreement signed between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Opportunity to increase volumes of trades between Central Asian and European countries is appear after the start of its operation, which in the result will support to development of trade and economic relations between big regions of Eurasian continent, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted. In this regard, the agreements reached during recent trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan have become important measure for activation of this transport corridor and cooperation on systematic base. In addition, importance of such major projects in energy, transport and communication spheres, construction of TAPI gas line as well as Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan power and fibre optic lines, realization of which would serve to further strengthening of interstate relations, has been highlighted. In the end of the conversation, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani exchanged the congratulations on Eid al-Adha, having wished health and success in all noble deeds to each other and prosperity to Turkmen and Afghan people.
