Turkmenistan – UN: close coordination and common goals

The progress in implementation of the Preparedness and Response Plan of Turkmenistan to Acute Infectious Disease (CPRP) was discussed during an online meeting. The videoconference meeting brought together representatives of the Mejlis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the spheres of healthcare, finance, legal and social protection, education, agriculture and environmental protection, migration and customs services, transport departments, as well as the media, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and public organizations of Turkmenistan. The UN was represented by heads and specialists of various UN agencies accredited in the country. Among them are the United Nations Development Program, UNICEF, WHO, the United Nations Population and Development Fund, the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. Addressing the meeting participants, UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Elena Panova underlined that the Preparedness and Response Plan of Turkmenistan to Acute Infectious Disease that met the international unitary standards was approved by the President of Turkmenistan. WHO Representative in Turkmenistan, Ms. Paulina Karvovska noted that the current meeting provided an opportunity not only to analyze the implementation of the Plan, but also to mobilize available resources for its further successful implementation. In the course of the meeting, the national and international partners reported on the activities completed and the plans for the future. Particular attention was paid on the outcomes of the videoconference meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Director General of the World Health Organization on August 7 and the initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader with the aim to combat the spread of acute infectious diseases. The meeting participants discussed the support of the UN agencies and partners in Turkmenistan’s preparedness and response to the acute infectious disease and future joint activities. Among them is the second seminar for journalists on communications in emergency situations.
