Vice-premier, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov had a video conference session with General Director of the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization Audrey Azoulay. The sides have states high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO, in which regard it the commitment of our country to protection of national and universal values, promotion of the dialog between the countries and nations based on cultural and humanitarian cooperation has been highlighted. Audrey Azoulay has expressed gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for big personal contribution to development of cooperation with UNESCO, strengthening of friendship between countries and nations. Education, science, computerization, specifics of the water resource management have been highlighted among priority directions of the partnership. In this regard, Mrs Azoulay has emphasized the importance of organization of expert meetings and participation of the sides in distant learning projects. Having noted efficient character of bilateral cooperation, representatives of our country expressed the intent to propose candidacy of Turkmenistan to some structures of UNESCO. It was mentioned during the meeting that protection of intangible cultural and historical heritage of Turkmen people is one perspective directions of the partnership. It is worth to mention that important cultural facilities of Turkmenistan have been already put into the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List. In this context, the sides have highlighted the importance of preservation of ahalteke horse and one of the ancient dog breed, the alabay, which popularization is important from the point of view of protection of the world cultural heritage. Turkmenistan’s representatives have also expressed interest in joining to the network of UNESCO creative cities, which would support the activation of intercultural dialog.
