On October 6, Turkmen people pay tribute to the victims of 1948 Ashgabat Earthquake as well as heroes who lost in the fields of battles of all wars. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the flower laying mourning ceremony to «Halk hakydasy» (People’s memory) Memorial Complex. The memories of Ashgabat Earthquake, a tragedy more than 70 years ago in the history of Turkmen people, is an open wound, which cause an empowering pain of losses. Force of nature has destroyed prosperous city and its outskirts, killed thousands of our fellow countrymen and brought sorrow of irreplaceable loss to almost every family on October night from 5 to 6, 1948. Those who survived have demonstrated high bravery, endurance and restraint. Erased from the earth, the city was pulsing with energy of people who haven’t trembled under onslaught of nature and who have breathed life into the city. The survivors were rescuing relatives, friends, neighbours from the ruins in extreme conditions. Common tragedy has consolidated the forces and moral power of people… The vehicle of the President of Turkmenistan has stopped in front of the Memorial Complex, which was lined up by the soldiers of the Guard of Honour. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov went to magnificent «Ruhy tagzym» Monument to pay tribute to the people lost in 1948 earthquake. The Head of the State has lost his grandfather Berdimuhamed Annayev, the 1941 – 1945 war veteran, teacher and educator, who dedicated all his life to noble affair of education of younger generation. … Modern Ashgabat is beautiful white-marble ensembles, magnificent monuments, modern sport arenas, theatres, shopping centres, comfortable high-rise buildings surrounded by plantation of parks and public gardens with numerous fountains. Paying close attention to the measures for modernization of urban life provision systems, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlights that compliance with modern requirements and standards, including quality, seismological, aesthetic and ecological, as well as innovative approach are the main criteria of these works. It is impossible to predict the act of nature or movement of deep layers of earth although scientists from all over the world try to solve this problem. Our country carries our construction works taking into strict account the resistance to shaking of the earth's surface. We have the Institute of Seismology and Physics of Atmosphere under the Academy of Sciences, which actively works on monitoring of seismic zoning of Ashgabat and regions. … The President has laid wreaths to the pedestal of «Milletiň ogullary» and «Baky şöhrat» monuments , which became symbols of everlasting people’s memory of noble sons of the Motherland. Following Head of the State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Speaker of the mejlis, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers and other participants of the ceremony have laid flowers. Shortly, the square in from of the monuments of «Halk hakydasy» Memorial Complex has been covered with live carpet of flowers. After the ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan has said warm goodbye to the participants and left the place of event.

* * * On his way, Turkmen leader has inspected the world for further development of the capital. Ashgabat expands its borders and its architectural ensemble is added with new buildings, magnificent complexes, roads and relative facilities. This work does not stop even for one day. In this context, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has given number of instructions for further development of urban environment. Having noted the necessity of strengthening control of construction of new important facilities, the Head of the state ordered relative officials to elaborate the proposals on further development of the capital.
