Today, a delegation of Turkmenistan has participated in the 35th meeting of the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation conducted via videoconferencing. The meeting focused on expanding cultural exchanges, the implementation progress of activities as part of cultural cooperation between the CIS member-states in 2016-2020, as well as organizational arrangements for events planned to be held in 2021-2025. The meeting participants also addressed the issues of drafting an Action Plan for the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage in the CIS and arranging the ARTEXPO International Exhibition in 2020-2022. Discussions also revolved around the implementation progress of the Agreement on Cooperation in museum activities; preparing Draft Regulations on a Virtual Museum of Cultural Heritage of the CIS member-states; international partnership between art universities, and collaborative efforts to restore, conserve and digitize manuscripts; as well as other important issues of cultural collaboration. During a constructive exchange of opinions, the meeting participants highlighted the special role of the Council for Cultural Cooperation in recognizing the values of intercultural dialogue, which is seen as the basis for the CIS countries’ diplomacy and helps to promote shared values and ideals as well as to encourage greater integration in the Commonwealth. Humanitarian cooperation is regarded as a key factor in strengthening the bonds of friendship and fostering greater understanding among the nations, speakers at the meeting highlighted. As noted in this context, Turkmenistan fully supports humanitarian integration, actively promotes and implements important cultural initiatives and projects aimed to enhance cultural cooperation in the CIS. In 2019, Ashgabat successfully hosted the CIS Forum of Creative Intellectuals. Moreover, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed an initiative to declare 2021 in the CIS as the Year of Architecture and Urban Development and to mark it with a range of activities and events. Concluding the meeting, the participants summed up the discussion and agreed on the date for the next meeting of the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation.
