On February 1, foreign ministerial-level consultations were held between Turkmenistan and the Sultanate of Oman via videoconferencing. The event was virtually attended by Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood AlBusaidi.

Discussions centered on a broad range of issues of the bilateral relations in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian areas. The two sides recognized the significance of high-level contacts in strengthening the ties between the two countries.

The Ministers stated the effectiveness of collaboration between the Foreign Ministries and highlighted the importance of advancing the dialogue and partnership through regional and international organizations.

The parties pointed out the similarity of the two countries’ viewpoints on maintaining peace, stability and sustainable economic growth. This is evidenced by the active and effective cooperation between the two countries within the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other reputable organizations.

Cooperation in the field of transport received special emphasis during the consultations. The diplomats noted that the two countries’ uniquely advantageous geographical positions provide essential links for the international North-South and East-West transit transport corridors.

In this context, the Agreement on Establishing the International Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman Transport Transit Corridor, initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, serves as one of the illustrative examples of the successful partnership. The two sides emphasized the importance of this collaboration in promoting closer relations between the countries and greater regional economic integration.

Having underlined the need for developing the legal framework for the bilateral cooperation, the diplomats discussed relevant draft documents.

The parties also expressed the two countries’ willingness to create an Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation to help to facilitate trade relations, including in the oil-and-gas, chemical, textile and agricultural sectors.

The Ministers stressed the necessity for developing closer contacts in the field of education and culture, given the present-day conditions, and considered the possibilities for enhancing the cooperation and sharing expertise and experience in the healthcare sector.
