Session of the Central Election and Referendum Commission in Turkmenistan

Session of the the Central Election and Referendum Commission in Turkmenistan dedicated to the preparation to the election of members of the People’s Council of National Assembly has been held on February 27.

Members of the Central Election Commission, workign groups established under the Commission, responsible personnel of political parties, public organizations and representatives of mass media have taken part in the session.

The agenda included organization issues of the elections including registration of candidates proposed as the members of the People’s Council of National Assembly of Turkmenistan, which elections would be held on March 28, 2021, approval of the list of place in the regions and capital where voting sessions for members of the regional and Ashgabat People’s Councils would be held on the election day.

111 candidates have been nominated as of today under the campaign for nomination of the candidates, which started according to the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan on February 6.

Among 111 candidates, there are 20 candidates from Ahal Region, 21 – from Balkan Region, 18 from Dashoguz Region, 18 from Lebap Region, 17 from Mary Region and 17 from Ashgabat. The nomination of the candidates is finishing on March 2 while the registration will last until March 7.

The participants of the session has outlines the transparency and provision of wide alternative of the elections as the utmost objective. In this regard, the importance of activation of the events for the awareness of the population with priorities and goals of creative home and foreign policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, wide-scale state programs and political and democratic reforms undertaken at the initiative of the leader of the nation has been highlighted.

Reports of the heads of election commissions of the regions and Ashgabat on preparation to the coming elections, on organization of various level events have been presented. In this regard, it was highlighted that important role is given to explanatory activity among the population. It was noted that the election commissions have special responsibility for coordinated and precise work during this important political and public campaign as the election commissions of the regions and Ashgabat organize the voting and sum up the results of the elections of the members of the People’s Council.

At the recent meeting with the Mejlis deputies, the head of the state has expressed the confidence that recognized standards of international law, respect of human and citizen equality to the law, their rights and freedoms, free discussion and decisions, consideration of public opinion based on the democracy, transparency, justice and supremacy of the law would be the priorities in work of the People’s Council and Mejlis of National Assembly.

Having highlighted that election of the members of the People’s Council of National Assembly would be an important step toward intensification of democratic principles, which make a base of successful positive changes implemented under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the epoch of might and happiness, the members of the Central Election and Referendum Commission in Turkmenistan,

 Assured that they would put all efforts for conduction elections on high level.

17 candidates proposed to the members of the People’s Council of National Assembly from Ashgabat have received registration certificates in the solemn atmosphere during the session of the Central Election Commission.

Number of other organizational issues, on which relative decisions have been made, were reviewed at the session.
