The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the International Conference "Turkmenistan and the United Nations: Cooperation for Peace and Trust", dedicated to the 29th anniversary of our country's accession to the UN.
As part of the event, an online ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place. In particular, the following documents were signed: the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on co-financing, as well as the Work Plan within the framework of the project "Strengthening mechanisms for youth participation in the implementation of national youth policy and the promotion of gender equality" between the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Turkmenistan and UNFPA for 2021.
On behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Ms. Christine Weigand was presented with a note verbale officially announcing the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan on the approval of the procedure for visa-free entry to Turkmenistan for foreigners holding UN passports.
Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Ms. Natalia Gherman read out the Message of the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to the conference participants.
In his address, the UN Secretary General noted: “I am especially pleased to congratulate Turkmenistan on the 29th anniversary of the accession to the United Nations. Turkmenistan is an important UN member state that plays an active and constructive role in achieving the goals of the Organization, including through the development of regional and international cooperation and the promotion of preventive diplomacy. "
According to conference participants, multifaceted cooperation with the UN is a strategic vector of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, which is based on the principles of positive neutrality and broad international cooperation. Based on the rich experience of cooperation, at the present stage this partnership has acquired a new concrete content.
The growing dynamics inherent in fruitful ties with the United Nations is primarily achieved due to the active participation of Turkmenistan in the affairs of the world community, its aspiration to provide assistance to address urgent problems. This position, as well as the general foreign policy of the Turkmen state, consistently pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, has received wide recognition and support from the UN.
