Representatives of our country participated in the 89th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States conducted via videoconferencing. The meeting addressed issues of diverse areas of cooperation of the CIS member-states, including ways of lessening negative impacts from the coronavirus outbreak.
Representatives of our country stressed that neutral Turkmenistan with its constructive foreign policy is fully committed to fruitful ties with the CIS member-states both bilaterally and multilaterally. As noted in this context, the meeting agenda reflects priority aspects of cooperation and issues of economic partnership within the CIS are seen as key ones.
Given today’s serious situation in the global economy, special emphasis was placed on joint efforts to work out and implement effective crisis-alleviating measures, and to quickly and properly exploit the untapped potential to boost the cooperation.
During the meeting, discussions also centered on a draft agreement on cooperation between the CIS member-states in employment promotion; a draft agreement on cooperation between the CIS member-states in sanitary control and supervision; a draft medium-term joint plan of action of the CIS member-states for preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
The meeting adopted the long-term Joint Plan of Action of the CIS member-states for the Exploration, Use and Conservation of Mineral Resources for 2021-2025. Its implementation will help to tackle complex geological issues and to establish a legal and information framework for the efficient and rational use of mineral resources.
The Interstate Space Council put the issue concerning cooperation in the integration of GLONASS ground-based infrastructure before the meeting for consideration. As noted, a high-accuracy navigation system will be created.
A total of 12 documents were approved at the 89th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
