The Mejlis of National Assembly has hosted video conference meeting of the heads of Parliaments “The role of parliamentarians in strengthening international year of peace and trust”. The event has been organized at the initiative of Turkmen side.

During the meeting, the sides have exchanged the opinions on use of parliamentary tools in solution of current modern issues. Speeches of the heads of parliaments from many countries of the world have been listened via direct video communication.

It was highlighted that initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on declaration of 2021 as International Year of Peace and Trust, which was unanimously supported by the United Nations General Assembly and approved by relative Resolution in 2019, has become some sort of appeal to all states to realize their responsibility for the future of the world, to stop growing intolerance, to analyze modern international situation and re-consider it from historical and perspective point of view.

In this context, joint works of parliaments receive special significance making necessary field to bring international relations back to positive course, to bring back trust in the world political situation, to asset the culture of trustful dialog between the nations.

Video messages of the heads and representatives of parliaments and different councils of Russia, China, Turkey, Japan, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and other states were presented at the meeting.

Active positive position of neutral Turkmenistan in consolidation of efforts in strengthening of international peace, security and stability, development of balanced solutions of vital modern issues has been highlighted in the speeches.

At the same time, special currency and promptness of initiatives proposed by Turkmen leader in promotion of understanding and solidarity between the states and peoples, expansion of constructive trustful dialog and multidimensional fruitful cooperation have been noted.

Guaranteed implementation of international treaties and agreements signed by the governments, strengthening of international law, assertion of the leading role of the UN in support of universal peace and security, keeping of strategic stability, support and strengthening of preventive diplomacy as an important tool for prevention of disputes and conflicts.

Opportunities of joint events under International Year of Peace and Trust have been discussed during the forum. Interesting exchange of views on further development of inter-parliamentary dialog cooperation has been held.

Participants of the meeting “The role of parliamentarians in strengthening peace and trust” expressed gratitude to Turkmen side for organization of current forum on high level and adopted final document enshrining the main provisions on joint activity in stimulation of positive regional and global processes, promotion of culture of peace and trust for sustainable development.
