The conference focused on the implementation of the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 was held at the Public Organizations Centre.

Representatives of the Halk Maslahaty and the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh, political parties, public organizations, the media, as well as the rectors of higher educational institutions, students, and the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan attended the forum.

The heads of representative offices of international organizations accredited in our country were also invited to the forum.

Those speaking during the meeting emphasized that enforcement of the Turkmen people’s constitutional rights and freedoms and improvement the national legislation in accordance with the generally accepted norms of international acts were among the most important directions of the policy of progressive reforms carried out in the country.

Particular attention was paid to the significance of the National Action Plan for Human Rights, approved by the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on April 16 this year.

As noted, one of the key aspects of the Plan was the intensification of multifaceted cooperation with authoritative organizations, primarily with the United Nations.

At the same time, it was emphasized that our country had proved itself as a state that comprehensively and strictly fulfills its international obligations in the humanitarian sphere, uniting the basic principles and institutions, aimed at ensuring and protecting the rights of human beings, nations and peoples, proclaimed by the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Highly appreciating the active position of Turkmenistan in the world arena, as well as the Government's efforts in the field of human rights, representatives of international organizations accredited in our country underlined the importance and relevance of constructive initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the aim to promote dialogue, including in the humanitarian sphere.

Forum participants underlined the importance of the forthcoming work on the successful implementation of the National Action Plan for Human Rights, developed in cooperation with international organizations. Enhancing the level of legal knowledge among the population, expanding access to relevant information were specified among the main tasks. Forum participants emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with reputable organizations, primarily with the UN and its structural divisions, the OSCE among others.
