Today, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Having warmly welcomed the head of the friendly state, the Turkmen leader said that according to the results of the Presidential elections held on March 12 announced by the Central Election Commission, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected the new President of Turkmenistan.

At the same time, the leader of the nation noted that he intends to continue his active work, but in a new capacity - the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan.

Taking the opportunity, the head of state thanked his Uzbek friend and colleague for his contribution to the development of a constructive interstate dialogue and the established fruitful cooperation.

The President of Uzbekistan, in turn, congratulated the leader of the nation on the early presidential elections successfully held on a broad alternative basis, which once again demonstrated the steadfastness of the course of independent neutral Turkmenistan towards progressive democratic transformations.

Noting the great personal contribution of the Turkmen leader to the achievements of the modern Turkmen state, to the international prestige of the country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported his far-sighted decision to involve young initiative leaders in state building and wished Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov good health and great success in his future activities for the sake of the prosperity of the Motherland.

Having noted with satisfaction the high level of trust and mutual understanding, invariably inherent in the Turkmen-Uzbek dialogue, based on the centuries-old traditions of good neighborliness, the historical and cultural commonality of the two fraternal peoples, the interlocutors expressed confidence that the established relations of trust, respect and mutual understanding would directly contribute to the further successful continuation of the multifaceted, mutually beneficial interstate cooperation in all spheres.

Having wished the President of Uzbekistan good health, long life and success in all endeavors, the leader of the nation handed over the phone to the newly elected President of Turkmenistan.

Warmly congratulating the newly elected head of the Turkmen state on his convincing victory in the elections, the President of Uzbekistan wished him great success in his activities in this important and responsible post.

Sincerely thanking Shavkat Mirziyoyev for congratulations and best wishes on his election to the highest state post, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that he intends to continue the course started by the previous President of the country, in particular, to take further steps to build up the entire range of bilateral Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation, promote new mutually beneficial projects and programs for the benefit of the fraternal peoples of the two countries.
