On October 30, Turkmen specialists laid the finishing rails at Akina station (IRA) - in the terminal point of the Turkmen-Afghan railway. The project of building the first stage of the Asian international railway corridor - section Atamyrat-Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Afghanistan) has been carried out. The total length of this section of the transnational railroad is 88 kilometers, including 85 kilometers of the track running through the territory of our country, and three more kilometers between Imamnazar and Akina frontier points. Finishing rails of this section of the track were laid by Turkmen railroad builders in Afghanistan. The ceremony at the Afghan station of Akina was attended by the heads of railway departments of the two countries, as well as builders, representatives of media and local authorities. The ceremony attendees with enthusiasm and applause met a symbolic moment - a high-performance tracklayer of the construction units of the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan have laid finishing rails and sleepers on the prepared road bed. Building and assembly works at the stations, engineering and supporting infrastructural facilities are nearing the completion. On the track over branches of the wide Karakum River, at the very source, domestic builders in cooperation with experts of the Ukrainian Company “Altcom” had constructed two railway bridges, each 5.8 meters wide. These bridges are 363 and 256 meters long. There is no doubt that after commissioning of the railway trade turnover between the countries will increase significantly. The terminal for receiving, storage and shipping of oil products at the customs post “Imamnazar”, to be commissioned at the same time with the Turkmen section of the Asian railroad corridor, will also contribute to this. The railroad Atamyrat-Imamnazar-Akina, in turn, will be the first link in the Asian international transport corridor, which will provide an access to China’s diverse railway system and further to the rapidly developing states of the Asia-Pacific region.
