On November 10, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov convened a working meeting to discuss the ongoing preparations for the first Sustainable Transport System Global Conference and for the ceremony of launching the transnational railway (phase one) – the Asian International Railway Corridor. Among the meeting attendees were Cabinet Deputies Chairman, khyakims of the capital and Lebap velayat. Reading out the meeting agenda, the nation’s leader noted that the November-scheduled upcoming events of international significance should be held at a better and higher level in terms of organization and content. Then the head of state heard the reports presented by the meeting participants. Cabinet Deputy Chairman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov made a status report on implementing the presidential assignments including the preparedness measures progress for conducting the first Sustainable Transport System Global Conference in our country. Reporting on the ongoing specific measures, the vice-premier, MFA head informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in association with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the International Road Union had drafted a conception for the Conference. The work is also kept going on developing the Conference Program. Along with plenary meetings and special sessions, it will include a number of other events, in particular thematic presentations, ceremonies of signing international documents, bilateral and multilateral meetings, negotiations, etc. Having stressed the importance of the upcoming forum for advancing and strengthening mutually beneficial international cooperation in that strategic area, the head of state gave the MFA head a number of special instructions on holding the Conference on a higher organizational level, as well as on the careful examination and timely elaboration of all the event-related issues. In his report, Cabinet Deputy Chairman S. Satlykov continued to further discuss the practical implementation of the Turkmen President’s constructive initiatives. Reporting on the activities in the sectors he is responsible for, the vice-premier covered the construction progress of the Asian International Railway Corridor (phase one) – Atamyrat-Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) – Aqina (the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan) section, and the preparation measures for the railway section opening ceremony. As was informed, for the time being, construction and assembly work on the section has now been completed, including construction of the additional infrastructure facilities, particularly the two bridges. In the after-report comments, the President of Turkmenistan has highlighted the significance of building international transport-transit railways and the Asian International Corridor that will run through the territory of our country, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. After reaching China’s extensive railway network, it will get an outlet to the fast-developing countries of the Asia-Pacific Region. Addressing the vice-premier, the head of state made special emphasis on ensuring sufficient organizational and technical support for official opening of the newly-built facilities. Speaking to Lebap velayat khyakim Ch. Charlyev, the President of Turkmenistan noted particular significance of launching the Asian International Railway Corridor (phase one) to the country. In this respect, the nation’s leader gave a number of issue-related executive instructions to the khyakims of Lebap velayat and Ashgabat city. Concentrating attention on further development of Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov placed special emphasis on the comprehensive and future-oriented approach to tackling the tasks set. Stressing that to meet its high status, the Turkmen capital should be a perfect model in every its aspect, the head of state commissioned the dignitaries concerned to ensure excellent quality and timely completion of construction projects implemented in the city.
