On November 26, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, who came to our country to participate in the Global Sustainable Transport Conference and in the ceremony of commissioning of the Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Aqina railway - the first stage of the Asian International Railway Corridor. The meeting agenda was mainly concentrated on advancing partnership in the fuel and energy sector, notably in construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline that is of paramount importance for improving the wellbeing of each of the project participating nations, as well as of the whole region. A considerable socio-economic effect is anticipated from the implementation of the Turkmenistan-initiated projects in the field of creating the international transport and transit traffic arteries, including the Asian International Transport Corridor. Running through the territories of our country, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, the Asian International Transport Corridor, in the long run, is expected to provide an access to the branched rail transport network of China, and further - to the rapidly developing countries of the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, the emphasis was placed on the historical significance of the upcoming event – commissioning of the new railway Atamyrat-Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan), which has to play an important role in restoring the neighboring country’s economic and social infrastructure, creating new jobs, and providing quality-of-life-improvements to the Afghan people. Simultaneously, a terminal will put into operation at the customs post “Ymamnazar” for receiving, storing and shipping the oil products. In conclusion, having expressed confidence in further strengthening and successful advancement of the traditional friendly Turkmen-Afghan relations, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani extended their best wishes to the peoples of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
