On November 26, after the plenary session of the Global Sustainable Transport Conference our country hosts these days, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov received the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to attend that significant international forum. The guest congratulated the head of state on opening of such a representative meeting in Ashgabat. Grateful for the distinguished guest’s participation in the forum on the global transport issues held under the UN auspices, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has emphasized that Turkmenistan invariably stands for the constructive dialogue with the world community both in the bilateral and multilateral formats. At the same time, special significance is attached to finding and employment new ways and forms of collaboration in addressing the focal issues of world policy within the major international organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The sides agreed that the SCO’s potential can and have to be used to maintain strong balance of the regional security, to prevent conflicts, and to apply the negotiation mechanisms as the only acceptable way of their solution. The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railroad, which is under construction now, may serve as a successful example of our country’s regional cooperation. Launching of the railway will, undoubtedly, give a new impetus to the economic growth of all the project-participating countries and Central Asia on the whole. President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov also exchanged views on a wide range of topical regional and international political issues of mutual interest.
