On November 26, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov together with the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Mr. Ban Ki-moon took part in the ceremonious opening of a new office building of the United Nations Mission in Ashgabat. The ceremony was attended by the Government members, heads of the international organizations accredited to Turkmenistan, participants and visitors of the Global Sustainable Transport Conference, representatives of foreign and domestic mass-media community, student youth. The event started with the ceremony of raising the Flags of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Organization. Addressing the ceremony attendees, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov noted that it was a great honor for him together with the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki-moon to take part in the ceremony of opening a new office building of the United Nations Mission in Turkmenistan. Then the floor is given to the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization. First, Mr. Ban Ki-moon welcomed in the Turkmen language the people assembled. For him it was a great honor and pleasure to visit Turkmenistan already for the third time as the Secretary General of the United Nations, he added. Mr. Ban Ki-moon has also expressed profound gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and all people of Turkmenistan for warm welcome and hospitality. Then, to the burst of applause, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon cut a symbolic ribbon – to signal the opening of new office building of the largest international organization. The President of Turkmenistan and the Secretary General of the United Nations start a get-acquainting examination of the office building - beautiful and convenient from its functional point of view. Ms. Jacinta Barrins acquaints the distinguished guests with the interior arrangement of office rooms on the various floors. Among the participants of the event are also Miroslav Yench, who several years led the Regional Centre of the United Nations for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat, and also the delegates of the Global Sustainable Transport Conference. With great interest they get acquainted with the comfortably equipped office building of the United Nations Mission which Turkmenistan erected for this important international organization in one of the picturesque corners of Ashgabat. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon were acquainted with the office rooms intended for the Mission’s personnel and with a well-equipped gym located on the ground floor. Examining a spacious hall, the leader of nation paid attention to its huge functional area, which can be used for holding not only large meetings, but also forums. The ceremony participants were also familiarized with the premises equipped with radio and video devices designed for meetings and negotiations. Then President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon entered the conference hall where they were welcomed by the employees of the United Nations Mission in Turkmenistan. Speaking on behalf of the United Nations Missions accredited to the country, taking advantage of the opportunity, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Organization, the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Turkmenistan Ms. Jacinta Barrins expressed sincere gratitude of the United Nations to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov for a really invaluable help in the common cause. Having expressed gratitude for kind words, the leader of nation noted that launching of the United Nations Mission’s new office building in Ashgabat symbolizes the beginning of a new stage in the relations between Turkmenistan and the United Nations Organization. At the end of the meeting with the employees of the United Nations Mission, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Ban Ki-moon made a memorable entry in the Distinguished Guests Book. Leaving the building, the head of state pointed out that the Turkmen side made its utmost to create optimum conditions for the productive work of international organizations in our country. The leader of nation informed that in memory of the today’s event on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, a new executive-class car was donated to the United Nations Mission in our country.
