On December 10, the assembly-hall of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted an international scientific-practical conference - “Neutrality of Turkmenistan and international practice: new advances of cooperation for the sake of sustainable development”. Timed to the 21st anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality, the forum was attended by representatives of Mejlis and diplomatic corps, Turkmen National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, Institute of State and Law under the President of Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions of a number of foreign states and representations of international organizations accredited to our country, as well as teachers and students of the International Relations Institute of MFA and other higher education establishments. In the speeches delivered, the speakers highlighted that Neutrality Day is one of the most significant dates in the newest history of the Turkmen people. On December 12, 1995, the 50th anniversary session of the United Nations General Assembly, a special Resolution - “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan” was adopted and unanimously supported by 185 UN member countries. That was truly a landmark event which had a positive impact on the life and fate of the entire planet’s population. Re-adoption of this Resolution on June 3, 2015 clearly testified to the importance of our state’s external policy and diplomacy in the world. In this context, great interest of the attendees was aroused by the speeches of foreign diplomats - heads of diplomatic missions accredited to our country, and international agencies, who highly appreciated the sovereign Turkmenistan’s policy orientation for establishing friendly relations with all states of the world and in-full using its impressive political, economic and cultural potential in the interests of global peace and sustainable development. It was noted that the indisputable evidence of Turkmenistan’s high prestige is systematic election of the country to the governing bodies of the authoritative international organizations, particularly to UN. Thus, a wide range of topics included in the agenda of the current conference enables to speak about its great theoretical and practical value. An excellent addition to the forum was a special exhibition in honor of the holiday organized in the foyer of the Institute and acquainting the forum participants with the ancient history of the Turkmen nation, its rich cultural and spiritual heritage, as well as with the accomplishments of Turkmenistan over 25 years of sacred independence.
