President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Turkmanbashy International seaport, which is currently under construction. The Head of the State met the specialists and workers involved in construction, familiarized eith the course of works, technical capabilities of the project, samples of the equipment provided for the port. Realization of the project for construction of International Seaport in Turkmenbashy will provide establishment of 2500 work places. Annual throughput capacity of new port will be 17 – 18 million tons of cargoes. Together with existing port, this indicator will be 25 – 26 million tons. The cost of the project is more than 1.5 billion US dollars. The construction is planned for 3.5 years and its completion is expected in December 2017. Today, more than 5.3 thousand people, where more than 4.9 thousands are Turkmen specialists and 377 are foreign citizens. By the results of the tender, where seven large company participated, Turkish «Gap Inşaat» company was selected as a general contractor of the project. The Turkmenbashy International Seaport project stipulates the construction of ferry, passenger and container terminals. The complex will include general cargo, bulk cargo and polypropylene terminals as well as shipbuilding and repair yards. The road with elevated intersections and railways will be also laid. Total area of the multifunctional port will be more than 1 million 400 thousand square meters. The volume of land refill for new port territory is 5 million cubic meters. The volume of the soil extracted during the dredging works for navigation channels is much more – it is more than 8.8 million of cubic meters. Total length of the jetties will be three thousand eight hundred meters. The mooring wall and bottom of the port are being compacted by powerful machines and fortified by the piles. Generally, 1422 mm diameter 2 563 steel piles, which are filled with armoured concrete afterwards, are necessary to be driven in the seacoast. The works for sand fill, installation of vertical drainage, transfer of temporary cargoes, filling of the dam for construction of the jetty and other were accomplished. The works for shoreline protection, delivery of equipment and machines, construction of bridges on the way to the port, workshop, warehouse, administration, custom, police, migration and border guard services buildings are carried out. Biological treatment equipment will be installed in each terminal for protection of the environment of the Caspian Sea. The project was developed in accordance with Green Port international standard. International ferry and passenger terminals will be able to serve 300 thousand passengers and 75 thousand trailers per year. The container terminal has average year capacity of 400 thousand TEUs. Multimodal logistic park will provide the complex of services for storage and combined processing of container cargoes, delivered by air, road and railways, as well as loading to sea transport and vice versa. Large opportunities for dispatching the cargoes arriving to Turkmenbashy by the Great Silk Road from Asian and Pacific countries to European countries via Russian, Azerbaijan and Iranian ports will appear after put into operation of the seaport, which is to become the main Seagate of the Central Asian region. New port will give impulse to the development of industrial and transport infrastructure, attraction of the investments and will promotes the flow of tourists to Avaza National tourist zone.
