On April 2, 2025, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia Husain Al-Musallam and First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees, President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani.

Having expressed sincere gratitude to the head of state for the time devoted to the meeting, the guests highly appraised large-scale work carried out in Turkmenistan to develop physical culture and sports, as well as train international-class athletes.

Warmly welcoming the leadership of international sports organizations, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that their visit will provide an opportunity to discuss important areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar.

As was noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan attaches special importance to the development of physical culture and sports. Turkmenistan is carrying out targeted work to promote a healthy lifestyle and attract young people to physical education and sports.

The guests emphasized that Turkmenistan is an active participant in the Olympic movement. A vivid example of this is the successful holding of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 2017, which contributed to the development of Turkmen sports, as well as the strengthening of sports cooperation on the Asian continent.

At the same time, Turkmenistan pays special attention to partnership with international sports organizations. Modernization of specialized infrastructure, creation of favorable conditions for athletes, holding international competitions are priority areas of our country’s sports policy.

Noting that the activities of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Association of National Olympic Committees contribute to the development of sports and the popularization of Olympic values throughout the world, the head of state expressed confidence that the visit of the leadership of these organizations to Turkmenistan will contribute to further intensification of cooperation in the sports sphere, the implementation of joint projects and the promotion of new initiatives.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his sincere gratitude to Husain Al-Musallam and Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani for their great personal contribution to expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Council of Asia, for their constant support of our country’s initiatives in this direction, and wished them success in their work to develop the Olympic movement on the Asian continent.
