On May 31, 2025, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who arrived on a visit to Turkmenistan.
Expressing gratitude for the time devoted to the meeting, the guest emphasized that Pakistan highly values the current achievements of Turkmenistan, and taking the opportunity, conveyed warm greetings to the President of Turkmenistan and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan from the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, as well as wishes of well-being to the entire Turkmen people.

Having warmly welcomed the guest and conveyed his best wishes to the leadership of Pakistan, the head of state expressed confidence that the results of the visit of the Chairman of the Senate of the friendly country will give impetus to the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations, and wished him a successful visit.
During the meeting, it was noted that the long-standing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, built on the basis of mutual respect and understanding, is currently successfully developing in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, transport and energy, educational and cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Turkmenistan and Pakistan support international initiatives put forward by the two countries on a reciprocal basis. As the head of state noted, in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, 2025 has been declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust". This decision is noteworthy because this year marks the 30th anniversary of the recognition of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality status, on the occasion of which many events are planned in Turkmenistan this year. In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and members of the Senate of Pakistan to take part in them.
It was noted that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the development of inter-parliamentary relations. Inter-parliamentary dialogue is an important component of interstate cooperation. Parliamentary Friendship Groups operating on a bilateral basis facilitate the exchange of experience in legislative activity and the development of parliamentary diplomacy.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed confidence that the traditional friendly relations between our countries will continue to develop in a wide range of areas in the interests of the two fraternal peoples, and exchanged best wishes.
