President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, which, after hearing the reports of members of the government and plans for upcoming industry events, has formulated a number of pressing challenges. In particular, instructions were given for the diversification of petrochemical and gas processing facilities, reclamation of agricultural land. At the meeting, there was information on the preparations for the spring sowing of cotton and other crops, care for winter crops, efforts to strengthen the shores of Amu Darya and Murghab, Karakum river and reservoirs, cleaning of irrigation systems. As reported, JSC “Türkmen ýüpek” under Ministry of Textile Industry has outlined in 2017 to prepare 2 thousand 30 tons of silkworm cocoons. It also plans to expand mulberry plantations, provide manufacturers with quality grain and effective technologies of cultivation of silkworm larvae, provide an opportunity to provide valuable raw materials to processing plants. The Head of State pointed to the need for early development of design documentation for the intended construction of a new two-way road bridge. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction the growing possibility of non-state sector participation in industrial development and production of competitive products. As has been reported at the meeting, Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs implements a number of production-oriented, import substitution and export related projects on the development of agricultural land and the development of mineral resources, including the production of construction products. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the draft Rules governing the export of the state awards from precious metals, signed a decree “On approval of the work plan of the State Commission for Emergency Situations of Turkmenistan for 2017”. A meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers has also adopted a decision to hold the international test competitions on April 16-30 in Ashgabat - Asian championships in weightlifting and kickboxing and international swimming competitions. Test tournaments with the participation of about 800 representatives from more than 40 countries will help to check the level of readiness of the Olympic Village, volunteers, sports journalists, judges, and other service providers for the Vth Asian Games. A Decree devoted to organizational matters in connection with the declaration of 2017 to be a Year of Health and Inspiration has also been signed. The planned measures are aimed at disclosing the spiritual potential of the society, upholding the principles of a healthy lifestyle, promotion of sports. As noted, the plans include holding mass rallies on landscaping and gardening, sports and sporting events, climbing Health Trail, conferences and exhibitions. Cultural events are planned, including the involvement of the media, culture and arts organizations, museums, libraries, and others. The meeting reviewed the implementation of the project “Promotion of Sustainable Development Strategy - sustainable use of natural resources in energy and environmental protection spheres in Turkmenistan” within the framework of technical cooperation with the European Union. Matters of Turkmenistan's presidency at the Energy Charter Conference in 2017 have also been discussed. The President in this regard has made a number of proposals. A draft Concept of Turkmenistan's presidency at the Energy Charter Conference, and the program of international events in the country and abroad have been developed.
