On August 6, 2025, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe Carlos Manuel Vila Nova, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
Having warmly welcomed the distinguished guest, the head of state thanked him for accepting the invitation to participate in the representative Forum held on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea and expressed confidence that this visit would be fruitful and would open a new page in the history of interstate relations.
Expressing deep gratitude for the invitation and the hospitality shown on Turkmen soil, the distinguished guest emphasized the importance of the representative international Forum being held in Avaza, which opens up new opportunities for the sustainable development of landlocked developing countries and their integration into international economic relations.
As was noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan maintains friendly relations with foreign countries based on the legal status of neutrality, three times recognized by the United Nations. Our country's interest in cooperation with African countries was noted.
– We advocate active cooperation not only on a bilateral basis, but also within the framework of authoritative international organizations, primarily the United Nations. Given the geographical location and tourism potential of your island state, it is necessary to carry out certain work in this direction, said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Noting that during the visit the high delegation of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe will be able to get acquainted with the economic potential, production and export capabilities of Turkmenistan, the head of state confirmed the readiness of the Turkmen side to provide all possible support in the presence of specific proposals for establishing mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova exchanged mutual good wishes and expressed confidence that today's talks will create a solid foundation for deepening relations between the two countries, as well as contribute to strengthening international cooperation within the framework of global initiatives.
