On September 2, 2025, as part of a working visit to the People's Republic of China, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang.
Warmly welcomed the high-ranking Turkmen guest, the First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for accepting the invitation to participate in the SCO Summit.
Stressing the importance of the meeting between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman Xi Jinping, Ding Xuexiang noted that China attaches great importance to the actively developing cooperation with Turkmenistan in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
The First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China took the opportunity to sincerely congratulate the President of Turkmenistan and all the Turkmen people on the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality.
Expressing gratitude for the hospitality, the President of Turkmenistan addressed congratulations to the Chinese side on the successful holding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, expressing confidence that the agreements reached during it will contribute to the development of regional partnership and ensure stability and prosperity in the SCO space.
Also, taking advantage of the opportunity, the Head of the state congratulated Ding Xuexiang and all friendly people of China on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
As was noted during the meeting, relations between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China are of strategic and long-term character. Today, effective interaction is carried out at the high state, government and ministerial levels. Great importance is attached to the Intergovernmental Committee in coordinating joint efforts and using the trade and economic potential of both countries.
Cooperation in the energy sector is one of the key areas of the Turkmen-Chinese partnership. A clear confirmation of this is the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, which has been successfully operating since 2009.
At present, transport cooperation is also acquiring particular relevance and significance. Noting that Turkmenistan is actively developing transport and transit infrastructure, the Head of the state attracted attention to the prospects for creating a trans-Caspian logistics route. In this context, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Chinese partners to a dialogue on creating a sustainable transport and logistics link between Turkmenistan and China through the territory of the Central Asia, the Caspian Sea and further west.
In this regard, having confirmed our country's readiness to further expand cooperation with China in the sphere of railway transport, modernization of the national railway system, and purchase of new equipment from China, the Head of the state also proposed to take joint steps to increase mutual trade turnover. In particular, Turkmenistan is ready to increase exports of textiles, chemical industry products, agricultural and petroleum products to China.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is also one of the priority vectors of bilateral relations. Turkmen students study at universities in China, and Chinese is taught in a number of higher educational institutions in our country. In this context, the President of Turkmenistan outlined specific proposals for the development of cooperation in the field of high technology, including artificial intelligence. For these purposes, it is proposed to use the capabilities of the International Scientific-Technological Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the University of Engineering and Technology named after Oguz Khan, and the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang, confirming the readiness of the two countries to take cooperation to a higher level, wished each other good health and further success in their state activities.
