Meeting of Hero-Arkadag with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations

Today, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet, the guest emphasized that she was honored to participate in events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. On this occasion, she conveyed greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Warmly welcoming the head of the UN Office at Geneva, Hero-Arkadag thanked her for participating in the International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, and extended reciprocal greetings and best wishes to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

It was emphasized that Turkmenistan consistently implements a policy based on the status of permanent neutrality, recognized by the United Nations, which serves as an important tool for strengthening peace and trust. This year, declared the International Year of Peace and Trust, marks the 30th anniversary of our country’s neutrality. In this context, it was noted that the Forum would serve as an effective platform for discussing key issues of the international agenda, sustainable development, and humanitarian cooperation.

Tatiana Valova stated that Turkmenistan contributes to the strengthening of peace and sustainable development in the region, assuring that, as a representative of the UN, she would support the high-level organization of the International Forum.

Development of multifaceted cooperation with the United Nations is one of the key directions of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, noted Hero-Arkadag. It was emphasized that, as a neutral state, Turkmenistan takes an active position on issues of peace and security and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Continuing the meeting, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to continue providing comprehensive support for the activities of the United Nations, as well as its efforts to strengthen political-diplomatic dialogue and trust in the region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, expressing confidence that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN would continue to strengthen, exchanged best wishes.
