On December 19, 2025, as part of his working visit to Japan, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Emperor of Japan Naruhito.

Warmly welcoming the distinguished guest, the Emperor of the friendly country expressed confidence that the current, second visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Japan will become yet another significant step towards further strengthening and expanding interstate cooperation. The Emperor took the opportunity to convey sincere greetings to the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Thanking for the kind words and hospitality, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that he is pleased to meet with the Emperor for the second time this year. The head of state conveyed greetings and best wishes to the Emperor from the National Leader of the Turkmen People Hero Arkadag.

It was emphasized that 2025 declared as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” by the United Nations General Assembly, marks the 30^th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. An International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the remarkable anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality, and International Day of Neutrality was recently held in Ashgabat.

Having warmly congratulated President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the successful hosting of such a significant Forum, Emperor Naruhito noted the importance of initiatives of Turkmenistan in the international arena.

Taking this opportunity, the head of state congratulated the Emperor of Japan on the successful completion of the World Expo 2025. It was emphasized that the participation of Turkmenistan in this exhibition attracted the attention of guests from around the world and provided an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the history, culture, and present achievements of Turkmenistan.

“Japan is one of the leading countries in terms of new technologies and advanced industrial production”, the head of state said. It was also noted that Turkmenistan is interested in the developments of Japan in the such fields as green energy, water resource management, and environmental technologies.

Confirming Turkmenistan’s openness to further cooperation with Japan, the President of Turkmenistan thanked Emperor Naruhito for his significant personal contribution to the development of interstate cooperation.

Concluding the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emperor Naruhito expressed confidence in a long-term strategic partnership on a wide range of areas and exchanged best wishes.
