On September 11, 2026, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Minister of State for Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan Kenji Yamada.

Expressing his gratitude to the head of state for the opportunity to meet and for the hospitality extended to him, Kenji Yamada noted that Japan attaches special importance to the development of multifaceted relations with Turkmenistan, and, taking this opportunity, conveyed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero Arkadag warm greetings from Emperor Naruhito of Japan and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Kenji Yamada emphasized the significance of the visits of the President of Turkmenistan to Japan to participate in the first “Central Asia –Japan Dialogue” summit and in the “EXPO 2025” World Exhibition, held in Osaka.

The guest also noted that Turkmenistan was the first participating country to hold its National Day at the World Expo, which drew significant attention to Turkmenistan from the participants of the event.

Expressing his gratitude for the kind words, the President of Turkmenistan extended his best wishes in return to the Japanese leadership, expressing confidence that the outcomes of the meetings planned during Kenji Yamada’s current visit would make a significant contribution to the development of Turkmen-Japanese economic cooperation.

It was emphasized that friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Japan are consistently developing on the basis of the principles of mutual respect, equality, and trust. Bilateral ties are multifaceted and encompass the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Speaking about political and diplomatic relations, the President of Turkmenistan noted that the high-level reciprocal visits that have taken place in recent years are serving to elevate cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

These relations are developing successfully not only on a bilateral basis but also in a multilateral format, particularly within the framework of the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue.

The trade and economic sphere is an important component of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation, which is expanding dynamically in accordance with the national interests of both countries, based on shared strategic goals and cooperation in the fields of high technology and investment.

Turkmenistan has gathered positive experience in effective partnerships with leading Japanese companies in the implementation of major projects in the transportation, gas-chemical, and agro-industrial sectors.

Noting that Turkmenistan highly values Japan’s rich experience in the field of innovative technologies and modern engineering solutions, the President emphasized the existence of favorable conditions and opportunities for developing mutually beneficial partnership and expressed interest in further expanding it in the areas of the economy, trade, and industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Minister of State for Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan Kenji Yamada expressed confidence that the traditional friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Japan and their effective cooperation would continue to develop in the interests of both countries and their peoples, and exchanged best wishes.
