President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov takes part in the Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Islamabad, Pakistan. Speaking during the Summit, the Turkmen leader noted that the 3d meeting of the Heads of the governments and states, members of the Economic Cooperation Organization took place in Islamabad more than 20 years ago, on March 15, 1995. On the outcomes of the meeting, the Islamabad Declaration that supports the confirmation of Turkmenistan’s status as a neutral state was adopted. The Islamabad Declaration was one of the first international documents that laid the foundation for the Resolution “On the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan” that was unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 12, 1995. On February 2, 2017, the UN General Assembly declared 12 December the International Day of Neutrality. The decision taken by the United Nations Organisation proves the recognition of the enormous contribution of neutrality to ensuring global peace, security and stability that promotes sustainable development of all countries and peoples, careful preservation and strengthening of spiritual, cultural and humanitarian foundations of their lives. The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that following these universal human values, Turkmenistan considered the platform of the Economic Cooperation Organization as an opportunity and favourable condition for holding efficient talks that contributed to establishing the regional dialogue given the long-term interests of each our state. The Turkmen leader said that the Economic Cooperation Organization possessed enormous potential for widening cooperation, in particular, in such important for the region sphere as security. Turkmenistan considers this aspect as the basis of the principles of unity and continuity of security. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that political, economic, energy, food, environmental safety and other forms of security couldn’t be achieved individually, being interrelated with each other in the geopolitical and geo-economic terms they should be integrated.
