At today's meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the President of Turkmenistan ordered to start compiling a catalog of thoroughbred Akhal-Teke horses - a detailed register of the most prominent representatives of the elite of the world horse breeding, indicating their achievements, origin and other information. The Akhaltekeans, whose homeland is Turkmenistan, is one of the oldest and most beautiful breeds of riding horses. As noted, this catalog will need to be registered with the relevant international organizations, after which reference to it will become mandatory. This multivolume edition will fundamentally reflect the role of the Turkmen people in preserving the very phenomenon of Akhal-Teke horses and the measures taken by the government to develop national horse breeding traditions. Legendary “heavenly” horses are a unique cultural asset and an invaluable contribution of the Turkmen people to the treasury of universal human values. At the meeting of the Government, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pointed out the expediency of applying to UNESCO for including Akhal-Teke in the World Heritage List. In accordance with the priorities of state policy, unprecedented measures are being taken in the country, giving new impetus to the multiplication of the national art of horse breeding and the wide popularization of “heavenly” horses. Among them one can note the creation of the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding, the construction of modern hippodromes and the largest equestrian complexes in each velayat, the establishment of prestigious national competitions, thanks to which centuries-old glory of unique “heavenly” horses grows every day, increasing the number of admirers of Akhal-Teke horses in all corners of the planet. Today, in many countries there is a steady interest in the revival of horse breeding facilities, scientific and educational base of this industry, equestrian clubs, and in this respect the traditions of Turkmen horse breeding, whose effectiveness has been tested for centuries, and the national school of training horses attract the most interest and attention of professionals. After all, the Turkmen not only gave the world such a work of the highest art of national breeders, like Akhal-Teke horse, but also preserved the thoroughbredness of these priceless horses with their magnificent qualities. Along with the large-scale and comprehensive activities carried out in our country to increase the number of pedigree horses, much attention is paid to the integration of domestic horse breeding into the international industry, the development of equestrian sports, training of jockeys capable of adequately representing Turkmenistan in the world sports arena, and, most importantly, education of the younger generation on the primordial creative traditions of the Turkmen people. Stressing the importance of continuing the fruitful work in the field of Akhal-Teke horse breeding, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave requested to study the opportunities and prepare relevant proposals for the opening of a research center or university of this profile. The leader of the nation instructed to hold a meeting with the participation of employees of the State Association “Turkmen Atlary” and eminent domestic specialists to discuss ways of realizing the objectives set today in this direction.
