The Mejlis of Turkmenistan in the format of traditional inter-parliamentary dialogue hosted a meeting with a delegation of deputies of the European Union countries headed by the European Parliament Vice President Mr. Ryszard Czarnecki, arrived in the country on a working visit. They exchanged views on the state and prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation being an important part of the dialogue between Turkmenistan and the EU. It was emphasized the importance of regular consultations and meetings of parliamentarians, promoting the further intensification of multifaceted relations. Special attention was paid to an interaction in the gender policy, protection of people with disabilities. As noted, along here Turkmenistan examples in the implementation of effective measures for active involvement of women in socio-political and socio-economic life, empowerment for a decent life and socialization of persons with disabilities. The guests were familiarized with the basic functions and tasks of the Supreme legislative body of Turkmenistan. As noted, it was established a solid legal framework which embodies the main directions of the global experience of laws lawmaking, that, alongside the accession to the major UN conventions, promotes the country’s successful integration into the international legal space. Neutral Turkmenistan systematically advances initiatives, aimed at secure global peace, stability and sustainable development. An important aspect of state policy is the protection of interests and human rights, consolidation of high humanistic ideals and values in society, and the country recognizing the priority of legal standards, universally recognized in world practice, steadily follows the assumed obligations. In this regard, it was stressed the importance of a redrafting of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, adopted after the nationwide discussion last year’s fall. The country’s constitution proclaims a man as the highest value, safeguards a full range of civil rights and freedoms, creates conditions for the people’s prosperous life. The meeting was also attended by Special Ambassador of the European Union for Central Asia Mr. Peter Burian, and Charge d'Affaires of the EU in Turkmenistan Mr. Lubomir Frebort. The program of visit of the European Parliament delegation includes a number of meetings in departments and public organizations.
