Aspects of partnership diversification were discussed during a meeting of the Turkmen-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission

Ashgabat hosted a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission for economic cooperation. The meeting was participated by heads and leading specialists of sectoral ministries and departments of two countries. Opening the meeting, the Commission’s co-chairs noted with satisfaction the high level of interstate dialogue and confirmed readiness of Turkmenistan and Georgia to actively expand effective partnership. Denoting the trade-economic sphere among perspective directions of bilateral cooperation, meeting participants emphasized that the modern age dictates new approaches. In this regard, the sides expressed confidence that the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission will gain momentum to further development of the traditional cooperation between Turkmenistan and Georgia. Noting that today there are all possibilities for increasing goods exchanges, particularly the handling petroleum products, textiles and products of private manufacturer, Commission members expressed themselves in favor of expanding the list of mutual supplies of products. Transport sector was named to be one of the Turkmen-Georgian relations’ strategic vectors. The South Caucasus is a part of the Caspian-Black Sea transport-transit corridor, the use of which enables to ensure broad interregional integration with the countries of Europe, and the Middle East. Noting the parties’ community of interests in this direction, attendees underlined that in this matter, Turkmenistan and Georgia are partners. In this context, it was noted the importance of creating the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey corridor. In the exchange of views on the prospects for diversification of bilateral cooperation, Commission members noted with satisfaction the interaction constructibility in the energy sector. Representatives of the Georgian delegation expressed the interest in participating in the implementation of attractive projects, meeting the interests of not only both countries, but also designed to give a powerful impetus to energy security architecture building in the entire Eurasian space. Designating the important aspect of inter-state dialogue, and also consolidation of humanitarian contacts, first of all, in the spheres of education and science, Commission members spoke for activization of cultural exchanges. In this context, it was reached an Agreement on holding of mutual Culture Days. The meeting participants also called the spheres of sport and tourism among the upcoming trends of cooperation. It was signed an appropriate Protocol according to the meeting results.
