Last week, the Turkmen-Iranian Business Forum on further deepening and expansion of the fruitful partnership between the two countries took place in the capital. Co-organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Iranian Embassy in our country, the regular meeting of business circles was timed to X specialized exhibition of goods of Iranian producers. 120 leading companies in various sectors of the economy and from Iran’s large industrial centers became participants in the economic forum. Members of the Iranian delegation (also represented by heads and specialists of the state institutions) and their Turkmen colleagues assembled in the conference hall of the “Mizan” Business Center to concretize the most beneficial areas of the trade and economic cooperation with a glance to the national development programs and regional cooperation. In the course of the business forum, video films were shown about the state of Turkmenistan’s and Iran’s economies, opportunities opening up for long-term cooperation, given modern realities and mutual interests. Separate presentations were devoted to prospective joint projects in the road construction and transport sector, urban development, oil-and-gas and chemical industries. The trade and economy, textile industry, agriculture, food production and others were also outlined among priority areas of cooperation. In their reports, representatives of the Turkmen delegation have noted that today Turkmenistan is a country with dynamically developing economy attractive to foreign investments. The most important trend of the economic strategy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov is industrialization of the country aimed to create modern transport and industrial infrastructure and to build large innovation-oriented processing plants. To this aim, huge investments are made in construction of new enterprises and reconstruction of the existing facilities. Among the issues considered, special attention was given to the possibilities of enhancing the business relations at the level of small and medium enterprises as well. As noted, the cooperation is considered to be very promising, given the development rates of the private sector of Turkmenistan’s economy. In the frames of the forum, meetings were held between representatives of the two neighboring countries’ various agencies and business circles to discuss the topical issues of working out new joint projects aimed at strengthening the economic relations.
