Silk producers of Turkmenistan have successfully managed with contractual obligations on production of silk cocoons. Vice-premier Mammetkhan Chakiyev reported in to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at working session dedicated to the objectives of social and economic development of the country and current issues of agricultural complex. In general, silk producers delivered more than 2,262 tons of valuable material for textile industry. Therefore, the plan was fulfilled by 111.5 percent. This excellent achievement is deserving reply to comprehensive care of the farmers, visual result of the policy in agricultural complex, which is aimed at optimum implementation of the potential of the branch, its integrated reformation and dynamic long-term development, initiated by the Head of Turkmenistan. All regions of the country have fulfilled their contractual obligations. First, cocoon producers of Ahal, Lebap, Mary Velayats and Balkan and Dashoguz Velayats afterwards, have reported about this. State procurement prices on different agricultural production including the cocoons have been significantly increased this year. These measures became actual stimulus for further increment of volumes of agricultural production. The interest of rural population in silk production is growing. Primordial national traditions and practice of silk production were carefully passed from generations to generations. From the old times, beautiful silk fabrics made by Turkmen masters were famous in the markets of the East and west where they were delivered by caravan routes of the Silk Road. Today, our country takes targeted measures for development of silk production and improvement of primordial traditions. At the same time, great attention is paid to strengthening of equipment, facility and material base of the sphere. It is remarkable that expansion of mulberry plantations in the region makes positive effect on ecological situation on sites, as mulberry tree is not only distinguished by longevity but also by many healthy features. In addition, plantation of mulberry trees along the fields is a good protection of agricultural crops from wind and support the strengthening of the banks of irrigation channels. Production infrastructure of textile industry including silk production section, which product meets high international standards and is on high demand, is steadily modernized based on advanced technologies. All of these supports the improvement of competiveness of national silk industry and bringing of it to new levels.
