The meeting of the President of Turkmenistan with the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China

Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Samarkand to participate as an honoured guest in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, met with Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.

In the course of the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness for further strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation both in the bilateral and multilateral formats, including within the format of “Central Asia +China”.

With view of further development of political relations, the President of Turkmenistan proposed to instruct foreign affairs offices of both countries to prepare a road map, which would include proposals on intensification of contacts at the state level and development of intergovernmental and inter-parliamentary relations.

In this connection, taking into account the existing great potential of cooperation, it was prosed to prepare and hold the next meeting of the Turkmen-Chinese joint committee.

The Turkmen side also expressed its readiness for consideration of the signing of a bilateral document to synergize the Belt and Road Initiative Strategy with the Revival of the Great Silk Road Conception.

Having made an emphasis on the fact that the gas sphere is one of the key areas of economic cooperation, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to hold the next meeting of the Working group for cooperation in gas with view of intensification of negotiation process in construction of the fourth line of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline.

Transport and logistics were also outlined as the most important areas of interaction. In this connection, the new route of China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway transportation has great prospects. As was marked, for realization of the great potential of the corridor, it is expedient to conclude as four-sided agreement on container traffic.

Availing of the opportunity, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to make an official visit to Turkmenistan at any convenient time.

Having accepted the invitation with deep acknowledgment, the head of the friendly county thanked the head of Turkmenistan for the constructive talk and proposals made to intensify traditional cooperation and in his turn, invited President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to visit China at any convenient time.

At the end of the meeting, heads of the two countries exchanged mutual kind wishes, having expressed confidence in steady development of the fruitful dialogue fully meeting state interests and priorities of economic development of the two friendly countries.
