The first bronze medal appeared in the treasury of the Turkmenistan team at the 13th World Kurash Championship that started in the Indian city of Pune. She was won in the weight category up to 78 kg by a second-year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Aziza Gurbanova. On the way to the podium, our compatriot lost only to the representatives of the Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan.

The World Championship in India brought together 178 athletes from 61 countries. Turkmenistan is represented by 13 wrestlers (7 men and 6 women).

The coaches of our team place great hopes on the 2019 world champion in the weight category up to 60 kg, a 5th year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management Shamuhammet Gurbanov. The 25-year-old master of sports from the Lebap velayat became the second at the 2017 world championship in Turkey. Two years later, at the World Championships in the Republic of Korea, he lost in the final to the representative of Uzbekistan, who, as it turned out later, was disqualified due to an anti-doping rule violation, and the world champion title was awarded to Shamuhammet Gurbanov.
