On December 1, German Economy Day in Turkmenistan was held in the capital’s “Ýyldyz” Hotel. Co-hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Representative Office of Economy of Germany for Central Asia, the forum brought together representatives of the government authorities and state-run organizations for promoting businesses in Germany. The friendly country’s delegation, which had arrived in the Turkmen capital, included businessmen from nearly 70 large firms specializing in different sectors of the economy, particularly: “Robert Bosch”, “Wilhelm Layher GmbH&CO.KG”, “MC Bauchemie Müller GmbH&Co.KG”, “Trubatec GmbH”, “Germany Trade and Invest”, “Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung”, and others. Among those attending the forum from the Turkmen side were representatives of ministries and sectoral agencies, state-owned and joint-stock commercial banks, the Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union. Today, the agenda of the six-time forum conducted in our country was focused on the issues of enhancing the mutuality-based bilateral cooperation built on an equitable and long-term basis. The business forum participants also considered the opportunities for the widespread introduction of high technologies, innovations and best practices into the various sectors of the national economy, for strengthening relations in the field of educational and occupational training, as well as the prospects for implementing new joint projects. In his welcoming speech, a representative of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia Mr. Andreas Peschke noted with satisfaction that the long-term bilateral cooperation had been filled in with a qualitatively new content in recent years. As the guest noted, Germany highly appreciates Turkmenistan’s open-door policy pursued by the Turkmen leader. As was highlighted, the close trust-based dialogue established between the Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has significantly contributed to expanding the interstate relations. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of holding German Economy Days in Turkmenistan on a regular basis. They encourage the development of all-round bilateral cooperation, establishment of new business contacts between the two countries’ state and private institutions. The ever-growing trade-economic ties are also a tangible evidence of the high level of relations between our countries. The Joint Turkmen-German Working Group plays an instrumental role in this. In 2015, the performance indicator in this field amounted to US $306, 000,000. Twenty-nine business entities of Germany have their branches and representative offices in our country. 169 joint projects with the participation of German capital have now been completed in the key sectors of the national economy; several projects are currently under implementation. In their reports, representatives of ministries and sectoral agencies presented in-depth information on the economic potential of Turkmenistan, promising areas of cooperation in line with the national development priorities. As was informed, throughout 1991-2015, the total volume of assimilated investments exceeded US $144 billion, a significant part of which was allocated to the country’s production assets. 544 large production and non-production facilities were built and put into operation during this period of time. The fuel and energy, power, chemical, building materials, light and machine-building industries, agriculture, transport and logistics were identified as the priority areas of partnership. Special accent was placed on the cooperation in the financial-banking, standardization and insurance industries, as well as on the prospects for cooperation in the private sector. Strengthening the mutually beneficial relations in the fields of education, science and healthcare was a particular topic of discussion.
