During the Elders’ Council, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Law on introduction of amendments and additions to the Land Code, which was adopted by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The amendments are aimed at attracting entrepreneurship into the agrarian industry, developing market relations, various forms of ownership and introducing new economic mechanisms in the agricultural production, as well as efficiently using agricultural lands. In particular, the Law says that the land fund for agricultural production can be established from the land under irrigation of peasant associations and other agricultural enterprises. It is planned to draft the regulations on allocating lands to the citizens of Turkmenistan and legal entities for the period up to 99 years. The regulations on allocating land to tenants, who fulfil their contractual obligations within 5 years, to launch various types and forms of agricultural production, were specified. In order to implement the new law, the President of Turkmenistan instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Industry jointly with the State Committee for Environment Protection and Land Resources to draft the projects of relevant regulatory legal acts and submit them to the Cabinet of Ministers.
