On the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A.Nurberdiyeva received credentials from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Turkmenistan Alfredo Nieves Portuondo. On behalf of the Head of State, the National Parliament Chairperson congratulated the Ambassador on the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan, having expressed the wishes for success in strengthening the ties of friendship and mutual understanding, and developing interstate relations. Thanking for the kind wishes, the diplomat conveyed the warmest greetings and best regards from the top Government of his country to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and all the Turkmen people. Expressing his desire to contribute in every possible way to promoting the Turkmen-Cuban dialogue, the Plenipotentiary pointed out that Cuba, like other countries of the world, highly appreciates and supports the constructive policy pursued by the Turkmen leader, as well as his important international initiatives aimed at strengthening the foundations of peace, stability and general wellbeing. During the conversation, the diplomat was given an overview of the priorities of the constructive foreign policy of Independent Neutral Turkmenistan, the progress of socio-economic reforms that have been initiated in the country by the leader of nation, as well as the ongoing large-scale projects, the main objective of which is to ensure steady growth in the people’s well-being. With regard to the topic of expanding bilateral cooperation, the sides discussed the possibilities for developing inter-parliamentary relations, as well as partnership, inter alia, in the fields of healthcare, recreation and tourism, environmental protection, and cultural dialogue. *** On the same day, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba was received in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a thorough exchange of views took place on various areas of strengthening the bilateral partnership. The issues of developing Turkmen-Cuban cooperation in the fields of healthcare, medical industry, cultural and humanitarian contacts will be the main topic of discussions during the scheduled meetings of Mr. Alfredo Nieves Portuondo in some ministries and sectoral departments of the country.
