“Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan demonstrate the similarity of views on the tendencies of the regional and international development. The countries are on the same page on such key issues of the global agenda as the maintenance of peace and stability, countering the threats of international terrorism, extremism, disarmament, the settlement of the situation in Afghanista”, said Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking to the media after the Turkmen-Uzbek agreements signing ceremony. It was noted that the countries closely cooperated in framework of the authoritative international and regional structures - the United Nations Organization, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States. Cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan stands as a strategic factor in the sustainability and positive development of processes in the Central Asian region. During the talks, the parties focused on the situation in Afghanistan, confirming their mutual commitment to the peaceful, political means to resolve the situation in the country, the importance of its integration into the international economic processes. In this context, it was underlined the significance of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the construction of the power transmission line and the fiber-optic communication line along the route Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, and the construction of the railway Serhetabat (Turkmenistan) -Turgundi (Afghanistan). “Turkmenistan as a neutral state is ready to offer the political space for the organization of the nationwide Afghan dialogue under the auspices and with the leading role of the UN”, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
