Turkmen sportsmen arrived in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku to participate in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games to be held from 12 to 22 of May. Complex competitions, where 20 medal events will be held, have assembled more than 3 thousand athletes from 57 countries – Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Gambia, Yemen, etc. Competitions will be held on the basis of the modern sports facilities, built for first European Games in 2015. Our compatriots are named for 10 events – volleyball, boxing, tennis, judo, wrestling (Greco-Roman and freestyle), weightlifting, swimming, basketball (3x3 format), wushu and karate-do. Volleyball players will be the first to contend for the championship (on May 11). During the group stage, the Turkmen team’s competitors will be national teams of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Pakistan and Palestine. On the opening day of Islamic Games, the masters of boxing and tennis will join volleyball players. On May13, the first champions and medal winners of the weight-lifters will be determined. On the same day, the followers of judo, karate-do will appear on the sports platform, and there will be swimming competitions as well. Freestyle and classical style wrestlers will start their displays on May 17, basketball and wushu competitions will start after them. According to experts, our boxers, judging by previous records, have to perform decently at these Games. Recently they participated at the Asian Championship in the capital of Uzbekistan – Tashkent, where they won two permits to the World Championship to be held in late August in Hamburg (Germany). One of the challengers – Nuryagdy Nuryagdyev, performing in the weight category under 81 kg. In addition, he has the bronze award. Aziz Achilov (under 75 kg) has the second permit. On his way to the cherished goal, he held three duel meets, two of which he ended by knockout of contestants.
